Ravens fans, we have been here before. Rewind back to January 2001. The Titans were the # 1 seed in the AFC, and looking to advance to their second straight Super Bowl.
In come the 2000 Baltimore Ravens, with a smothering defense and a surprising 12-4 regular season record. This upstart team is in the playoffs for the first time ever, and happen to beat the favored Titans on their home field and advance to play Oakland in the AFC title game.
It is now 2009. The 6th seeded Ravens again go into Tennessee with the arrogance and ability to take out the “best team in the league”. A rejuvenated Kerry Collins has led a defense-minded squad back to the top of the NFL heap in hopes of capturing the first NFL title for the franchise.
Will this be the end of the road for the 2008 Cinderella Ravens, who rebounded nicely from a 5-11 floundering club just a year earlier? Or will the purple & black finally succumb to the more “experienced” playoff team?
Saturday evening will bring all the answers. As a Ravens fan, I want to see them go all the way. As a football realist, I also know a rookie QB and head coach have limits. Time to watch and hope and pray.
